Class 1 licence

The Class 1 licence allows you to drive Class 2 and 3 vehicles, a two-axle road tractor with a net mass of 4,500 kg or more, pulling one or more trailers or semi-trailers. You can also drive a road tractor with three or more axles, pulling one or more trailers or semi-trailers. This class of license also authorizes you to drive a Class 3 truck, pulling a trailer or semi-trailer with a net mass of 4,500 kg or more.

Prerequisites

  • Hold a Secondary School Diploma (DES) or have completed the 4th year of secondary school in French, English and mathematics, or have the functional prerequisites, i.e. pass the TDG (Test de développement général – General Development Test) or equivalent learning (TENS) recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEQ).
  • Have held a Class 5 driver’s license for at least 36 months (certain relaxations are possible with the PEACVL and the 24-month measure)
  • Have a driving record containing no more than 3 demerit points and free of suspension (due to a Criminal Code offence or loss of all demerit points) in the two years preceding the application.
  • Agree to abide by the policy on narcotics, drugs and alcohol
